Austin Train Bridge Fall

I painted this en plein air in fall, the colors seemed dull to me today and the whole painting a little flat, so today I updated it.

Thailand National Park

What started this painting? A delicious Thai meal at a restaurant near our home in Texas. The food is so good, but the art on the wall is a little sad. I thought maybe one day I would have many paintings of Thailand to offer them to spruce up those walls.

Green Mesquite BBQ, Saturday Night, Austin, Texas

We ate BBQ out at a spot in down town Austin. We ate on the patio out back while a band played. The food was OK but the atmosphere made the night.

Eureka Colored Houses Finished

I don't always have that much time to paint, so I've decided to go back in on some paintings that didn't seem quite done. Today's painting is #100 in the blog, which began on December 1, 2006.

Doggy Land USA

We went out to see Elana James play fiddle at Maria's Taco Shack tonight. It was a great show at a place that feels very Texas. They had all these old circus posters on the wall, they inspired this painting.

Blue Train

I'm enjoying these studies in one color. I'm starting to understand the artist who painted using only white paint and what he was up to. This was a painting of the Austin train bridge. I like how the colors from the old painting show through a little.

I painted for many hours today, but it was for a collaborative art project that will end in 8 or so weeks. I'll be able to post it at the end. It was very fun. Happy St. Patty's Day.

Reflections of Italy

My husband and I took my grandparents to Italy in June 2003. It was their and my first time. My Papa's parents left Roccamonfina, Italy, when they were 19 years old, to start a new life in the States. They were never able to return and my Pop was laying eyes on it for the first time a few days before his 79th birthday. I painted everyday when I was there, and I'm sure I would never run out of things to paint if I moved there for the rest of my days.

The Eclipse: A Camper's Perspective

When I first began painting after college, I would paint from the images in my mind. I would stare at a person or place and then go home and try to recreate them with paint from memory. One of my first victims was my now husband. Well, I've been trying that process a little again thanks to this blog. This image is of last night's campfire (we went camping) during the lunar eclipse. It was a cold bugger of a night, and I stayed awake for most of it, making sure my daughter was warm enough, and breathing. A bunch of Texas musicians made it less lonely playing music till the wee hours. Nothing looks as good as a fire when you're cold and it's dark and you're in the middle of nowhere.

Yellow , Orange, and Red

Otherwise known as "Ode to Ketchup and Mustard."

Red to Blue

I'm playing around with contrast and color, while painting over paintings I hate.

Yellow and Blue Make Green

I really enjoy placing big globs of paint on a canvas, especially a canvas that isn't white.

Orange Who?

Knock, Knock, who's there? Orange.
