Painting the Town Red-- Bid

I did a mediocre painting of North Austin last summer, and today I painted it over with yellow, orange, and red paint. You can still see the telephone poles and wires from the old painting.

Austin Train Bridge Sunny Day Upgrade

I hated the colors on this painting, but I liked the painting, so I changed the colors. Using only my imagination, folks, don't try this at home. :) The colors look better in person.

Eureka Colored Houses Finished

I don't always have that much time to paint, so I've decided to go back in on some paintings that didn't seem quite done. Today's painting is #100 in the blog, which began on December 1, 2006.

The Brightly Colored Path, Venice, Italy

I'm really into brightly colored buildings, especially if they are near water.

The Eclipse: A Camper's Perspective

When I first began painting after college, I would paint from the images in my mind. I would stare at a person or place and then go home and try to recreate them with paint from memory. One of my first victims was my now husband. Well, I've been trying that process a little again thanks to this blog. This image is of last night's campfire (we went camping) during the lunar eclipse. It was a cold bugger of a night, and I stayed awake for most of it, making sure my daughter was warm enough, and breathing. A bunch of Texas musicians made it less lonely playing music till the wee hours. Nothing looks as good as a fire when you're cold and it's dark and you're in the middle of nowhere.

Otherwise known as "Ode to Ketchup and Mustard."

Red to Blue

I'm playing around with contrast and color, while painting over paintings I hate.

Yellow and Blue Make Green

I really enjoy placing big globs of paint on a canvas, especially a canvas that isn't white.

Choo Choo Train

There is a little train ride for kids here in Austin, that my daughter loves. This painting is of her, on the train, in my red hat.

Flat Lands of Texas

I drove out to a plein air paintout today and saw a little house surrounded by a whole lot of sky and grass, and not much else. I painted this from memory and put the paint direct on the canvas and mixed it there as I went. I used the three primary colors I've been working with this week, as well as some white.

Friday Afternoon by Town Lake Austin Texas

I missed lunch today, so I left work early and sqeezed in a painting of the Lake on my way home. The day started so cold. I would have happily stayed in bed all day. Luckily, when I left work the Texas sun was out and had done its job warming the place up a bit. This painting is a lot further east on Town Lake than I've ever been. Town Lake (Austin's dammed part of the Colorado River) is much bigger then I had thought.

Austin Train Bridge on a Sunny Winter Day --$100

I had a few hours today to paint outside today. It was a gorgeous day in Austin, warm and sunny. Way to go Mr. Groundhog. The train bridge had some really nice light on it.

Light Study IMAC -- $100

We lost the great Molly Ivins today. May God bless her and her mission to end the war. Tonight's painting is about me working on painting light. I found tonight's painting painful. I wanted it to look good, which never goes well. It's been a long day. Not very peaceful toward the end. What is peace? I guess it starts in your head. And someday, I won't pass my serinity like I pass the salt, but so far today, I've been imperfect with that goal.
