Tomorrow is the one year birthday of this painting blog...it's been an interesting painting journey. I painted just over 260 paintings. Many many thanks to all my supporters. As for this piece, I draw these fun shapes with chalk when I'm out with my daughter and wanted to see how they looked in paint.

I fear running out of water. This spring fed pool makes Austin great. It's a miracle that it exists. I've decided today that if the entire world relied on solar energy maybe we could reverse global warming.

I added a second coat of paint to this painting from earlier in the blog, and I think it is much improved. Perhaps all my old work just needs a second coat of paint.

Here's another entry for this nautical show call for entries at Gallery Lombardi. Sometimes the ocean is scary enough without creatures in it. This is a large wave that crashes in extremely shallow water. Some folks actually surf it.

More Ocean

Here is another piece of the ocean puzzel, I worked on it last night and tonight. I can't decide whether to add sea creatures or leave this whole thing as more of a color study.

The Plein Air Austin groupphad a paintout at a beautiful ranch in Kyle, texas today. I found this little jewel in one of the buildings. The sun came out for a few minutes and gave me some nice shadows and light to work with.

On the weekends I usually get 2-3 hours of free painting time. I joined Austin's Plein AIr Group when we moved here in July and started painting outside the studio. It's as thrilling as surfing or rock climbing.

Searching for Comfort with Imperfection

As a graphic designer I produce art on a computer, easily aligning and sizing objects to mathematic perfection. I've noticed that my design work has begun to affect my painting and home life, so much so that I am physically uncomfortable with things that don't align. This painting sets out to begin to free me from that discomfort.
